I’m going to share this story in full disclosure even though it’s not one of my proudest moments and it’s quite embarrassing…
Last Wednesday, I had a “full day.” When I say full, I mean packed. I had a 6:30 a.m. weigh in at my local Weight Watchers, an 8:20 a.m. presentation on campus, I was helping host an executive committee meeting at work starting around 11, and then I still had one more meeting after that, and had to pick up Owen…all before 4:30 p.m.
Just writing that out…made me realize just how FULL my day really was. I had it all planned out. I was going to wake up at 5:30 a.m. and be out the door around 6:15 a.m., so I would have plenty of time for my weigh in and to drive the 20 miles to Minneapolis. I wanted to have plenty of time to prep and setup up for my 8:20 a.m. presentation.
Well, just like most days, my “plan” was thrown out the window. Owen was up around 5:15 a.m. and I needed to help entertain him while Matt got ready. After that I needed to get ready, get my breakfast/snacks, and take Lucy out before leaving the house.
I finally left the house around 6:40 a.m. and as I was backing out of my detached garage I heard the worst sound…my car colliding with my brick house! Yep, no lie. I literally backed into my house and scratched the crap out of my bumper. My poor little Jetta took a beating that morning. I jumped out of the car and couldn’t believe what I had just done. My hubby came out and couldn’t believe it either….but, he did hold back any anger and/or laughter, and I LOVE him for that.
Needless to say, my day did not start out the way I was hoping. Not only did I back into my house, but then I FINALLY got to my weigh in and I had gained .6 pounds. I couldn’t believe it. I was so frustrated….with everything!
After I settled down and started reflecting on my morning, I realized that it was a message that I needed to hear and the Lord knew I needed to hear it in a big way. “Slow down, Jenna!” That’s really what he was trying to tell me and if this message would have came in a more subtle, passive way I wouldn’t have listened. He knew that, because He knows us better than anyone.
So, I conceded to the Lord’s message and I did slow down that morning, and I cancelled all my meetings the following day giving myself a little time to catch up and slow down. Did it help? Yes, it was immensely helpful to have a day that was slower and less stressful than many of my prior days this month. He knew I needed it. I knew I needed it. But, it literally took me backing into my house to do anything about it.
I share this message with all of you today in hopes that you’ll listen to whatever the Lord is pressing upon you. Messages can come in all shapes in sizes. They may come from a loved one, or blog you just read, or a sermon, or….running into your house. However the message comes, please do not ignore it. He knows what we NEED and He wants to take care of us. We just have to listen.
Blessings to you and your loved ones,
